Bare Hill Rowing Association (BHRA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the sport of rowing within the greater Harvard, MA community.

Bromfield-Acton-Boxboro Rowing is a member of the US Rowing Association and is the interscholastic rowing program of BHRA, combining the scholastic communities of  Bromfield and Acton-Boxborough Regional Schools.  Our dual team was officially sanctioned as a competitive public school team by the Massachusetts Public School Rowing Association in the spring of 2009.  BHRA also sponsors other programs, such as our Summer Rowing for all ages and middle school Learn-To-Row programs.

Bromfield-AB Rowing offers a rewarding experience for rowers of all abilities,  including a very competitive varsity and a novice program. The team offers the opportunity to sweep row as well as learning the fine art of sculling. Varsity rowers compete against other top public and private schools and club programs from all over the Northeastern United States in 1,500 and 2,000 meter races in the spring season.  In the fall, rowers compete in several longer head races throughout the Northeast, including the premiere head race in the world – The Head of the Charles, as well as the Head of the Fish, Tail of the Fish and Head of the Connecticut.  The Novice Team is made up of athletes with no prior rowing experience. Novices are exposed to both sweep and sculling rowing and compete against similarly experienced rowers from other schools in both the spring and fall seasons.

Our Men’s and Women’s Varsity and Novice teams have won numerous titles at state and regional regattas.  The Girls Varsity Eight and Double brought more Gold medals to the program by taking First Place at the Spring 2010 Massachusetts Public School State Championship. With all of the girls’ crews medaling at States, the Bromfield-AB Girl’s Team took home the 2nd Place Overall State Title in the spring of 2010.  The team also captured the overall 2nd Place Team Trophy.  In the fall of 2010, the Boy’s Varsity-1 Eight captured the Gold Medal at the Massachusetts Public School Championship for the first time.  In 2010-2011, the Girl’s Novice Eight won both the Fall and Spring MPSRA Championships.

On the national scene, the team has made great strides in the last two years. In June 2010, Bromfield-AB qualified a Boy’s Four and a Girl’s Double for the Youth National Championships in Batavia, Ohio. The Double placed 6th and the Four placed 13th, winning the C Final.  The team followed up in 2011 qualifying three crews for the USRowing Youth National Championships in Oakridge, TN.  The Boy’s Pair won Gold, the Girl’s Double took Silver and our Boy’s Four place 16th.
