SUPPORT the bare hill fund FOR YOUTH ROWING OPPORTUNITIES

ABOUT THE FUND

Established in 2019, "the bare hill fund" was generously created by a private donor committed to supporting opportunities for young people to row. BHRA believes that no family should be turned away from rowing due to economic status. The bare hill fund opens the door to rowing for families who may otherwise be unable, or reluctant, to join the team.

The name Bare Hill stems from a practice of the New England Native Americans of annually burning the underbrush in the forests.  This left the heavily wooded hills easily passable to a person on horseback.  The early settlers of Lancaster were impressed, especially by the openness of the 600-foot hill in the northeast part of the Town of Harvard, and bestowed upon it the name "Bare Hill".

In keeping with this idea of easing the way of a traveler, the bare hill fund is designed as a financial aid resource to help families with children wishing to participate in the Bromfield Acton-Boxborough rowing program make it over the last 500 meters.

HOW IT WORKS

This fund is not set up to provide full financial aid, but to help families who need some extra help to ensure their child can participate. No more than 50% of an applicant's need would come from the bare hill fund.  This way, the fund may help multiple families at a time.

Applicants for BHRA financial assistance will be eligible for bare hill fund assistance. Need will be evaluated and bare hill fund awards will be made where the fund can have an impact "closing the gap" between what a family can afford and club fees. A family who needs greater assistance should consider applying for available scholarship awards and may be eligible for other financial assistance BHRA offers.  For more info, see the Financial Assistance page HERE.

YOUR SUPPORT MATTERS

In order to maintain the fund on an ongoing basis, community support is vital. Rowing is a resource heavy sport, but with community contributions, we can ensure that everybody who wants to participate will be able to, while also keeping BHRA financially secure. BHRA has no endowments for financial assistance. We rely on the generosity of alumni, members and friends to support our  financial assistance initiatives. Many students will have the opportunity to participate in the BAB rowing program thanks in part to this vital support.
