ERGON is the hottest, most fantastic mind-body workout to hit the gym! Experience a class that uses the ergometer (the "erg") as the centerpiece, similar to a spinning class. Core strengthening exercises  will be included. Whether you are a first timer or a cardio-enthusiast looking for a new challenge, this unique, fun and energizing workout is a perfect way to get and stay fit for life!

Training will be done on the Concept2 Ergometer (the Erg). The Concept2 BikeErg is also available. 

With a large space, there is plenty of room for social distancing if desired while working out.  You will receive coaching and immediate feedback. Classes are in person only. No remote classes or video will be offered.

WHAT

The ADULT fitness class will use the Concept2 Ergometer, as well as the C2 bike and other fitness machines. 

  • A non-competitive program, go-at-your-own-pace.
  • Two 5 week sessions offered.  Each session includes 10 classes, two classes per week with some Holiday exceptions.
  • Individual instruction and targets for improvement.
  • Training is at 258 Great Road, Acton, in the mall near Donelan's Supermarket.  This space is at the far end of the parking lot (formerly Goulds clothing store).
  • Plenty of parking.
  • Fantastic early spring cross-training for other sports.
  • No experience necessary!

Mark Lyvers returns as our coach. He's primary goal is to guide you through workouts focused on fitness and good technique, with the added benefit of introducing you to a training element used in the sport of rowing. Fitness fans have made indoor rowing the most popular workout across the country.

Does not include class during MLK holiday on 1/15

Does not include classes during the holiday break 2/19 -2/23

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

All participants in BHRA programming, including ERGON participants, are required to have a current membership with USRowing Association and complete Safe Sport training. 

Safe Sport: Access 30 minute Abuse Prevention for Adult Athlete Training: *This training is for those solely participating as athletes/participants. 18 and older athletes can access the training by logging into your individual profile on https://membership.usrowing.org with your member number and password. Click the SafeSport button in the menu bar on the left hand side. Suggested courses should appear automatically. Athletes will click on the course titled "Abuse Prevention for Adult Athletes" The thumbnail is green with a woman boxing. The course is estimated to take 30 minutes to complete.

Mark Lyvers

Mark, a Harvard, MA resident and sculler, and Syracuse University graduate, rower and coach returns to Bare Hill pond to coach at BABR. Mark began his rowing career in Hyde Park, New York where he was captain of his high school rowing team. From there, Mark went on to collegiate rowing at Division 1 Syracuse University, graduating Phi Beta Kappa and earning an MBA in finance from Syracuse's Graduate School of Management. Mark established rowing as a varsity sport for women at Syracuse and served as the program's first Head Coach and Director. A successful businessman, Mark's passion for rowing never dimmed. Over the years, he has rowed and competed from the pond to the Olympic level and has coached a variety of programs including learn to row, high school, collegiate and masters. A Harvard resident since 1986, he is a self-taught sculler ("still learning after 40 years") and was the Co-founder of the original Bromfield rowing program and assistant coach for the first season. In 2014, Mark was inducted into Syracuse University's Rowing Hall of Fame, recognized for his outstanding contributions to the sport. Mark was a member of the Bromfield Acton-Boxborough Rowing Team's staff from September of 2017 - October 2021 as the Eighth Grade Sculling Coach.

WHAT WILL BE NEEDED FOR A WORKOUT

  • Workout clothes: bring layers to start your workout. We may leave the doors open to assist with air circulation, so it will be chilly when you arrive but you will warm up quickly and it is a perfect temperature for working out.  
  • Water bottle: there is no access to drinking water.
  • Yoga mat:  extra padding is welcome for stretching.
  • Additional items:  a foam roller. 
  • A coed bathrooms is available.

Cancellations

  • Insufficient Enrollment
    BHRA reserves the right to cancel a FULL 5-week session with fewer than 3 participants enrolled and refund program fees in full.
  • Unforseen Circumstances/Inclement Weather 
    There are no refunds or make-up days for cancelled classes due to unforeseen circumstances or inclement weather. If we can provide an alternate date or time for a make-up class, we will let you know but this is neither an implied or express guarantee nor our policy.

Absences

  • No make-up classes will be provided for absence.
  • In the event of coach absence, BHRA reserves the right to provide a qualified substitute coach.

Refund Policies

  1. A participant who registers for a FULL 5-week session (10 classes) that is cancelled for any reason by BHRA will receive a full refund or the participant withdraws before the start of the first class.
  2. A participant registered for a FULL 5-week session who requests a refund after the second class will receive a 75% refund.
  3. A participant registered for a FULL 5-week session who withdraws after the third class receives no refund.
  4. FIVE classes purchase is non-refundable, unless you withdraw before the program starts.

COVID STATEMENT

Bare Hill Rowing Association is committed to the health and safety of its members and the greater community as a top priority.  We operate in accordance with protocols set forth by USRowing, the national governing body of the sport of rowing.  
  • Masks are not required but athletes are welcome to wear one. 
  • State and Local COVID protocols will be followed.
  • Participants are encouraged to provide their own yoga mat and resistance bands for stretching.
  • Sanitizing supplies will be provided for cleaning equipment between sessions.

QUESTIONS

If I purchased the FULL 5-week package (10 classes) and try the first two classes and don't wish to continue, will I get a refund?
Yes, you may request a 75% refund. No refund will be given after the 3rd class. 
If you withdraw before the program starts, then a 100% refund will be issued.

If I purchased the FIVE classes option, try the first  class and don't wish to continue, will I get a refund? 
No refund will be given for the FIVE classes once you start. 
If you withdraw before the program starts, then a 100% refund will be issued.
