This class is for the complete beginner with no rowing experience. The fundamentals of rowing will be taught in two 1-hour classes, offered 2 days a week, with no more than 4 Youth and 2 Adults per class. This is a great “starter” class for someone interested in joining our scholastic team in the fall.
You will learn terminology and boat basics and how to navigate. Sculling (rowing with 2 oars) is done in stable, flat-bottomed boats. This is the best development class to prepare you for further rowing instruction and is a prerequisite for moving up to higher level classes.
All participants (including the parents of minor-aged participants) are responsible for the information in this Tab and in the information Tabs for: Forms and Policies.
Who is Eligible: Open to the public, rising 6th graders to adult
Prerequisite: No rowing experience is necessary. Swim Test required, see Forms tab.
Classes operate on a weekly cycle starting on June 24 and ending on August 9
BASICS 1

This class takes the Beginner to the next step. The fundamentals of the sport of rowing will be taught in two 1-hour classes, offered 2 days a week, with no more than 4 Youth and 2 Adults per class. You will continue to learn terminology, boat basics, how to navigate and a few basic drills to increase your understanding of the rowing stroke. Sculling will be done in stable, flat-bottomed boats. Basics 2 prepares you for further rowing instruction and is a prerequisite for moving up to higher level classes.
This is the next step to an introduction to rowing for someone interested in joining our scholastic team in the fall.
INTERMEDIATE
2 classes offered on Friday and Saturday
Prerequisite: For those who have completed BASICS 1 & 2 OR at coach's discretion for those with previous rowing experience. Passing a flip test is mandatory and will be part of the beginning of the class. If you passed a flip test at the end of your LTR class, that will be counted. Coaches will determine a participant's class readiness in their discretion. Swim Test required, see Forms tab.
Intermediate sculling is for the individual who has completed Learn to Row Basics sculling program or has previous rowing experience. Taught in two 1:20 classes, offered 2 days a week, with no more than 4 Youth and 2 Adults per class.
This class will take you to the next level of sculling or provide a refresher course for those who have been out of rowing for a while. Scullers will move into a regular (narrower) width boat. The goal of the class is to help you improve your rowing skills, teach you about balancing a boat and add simple workouts for you to execute.
This is a perfect progression in the introduction to rowing for someone interested in joining our scholastic team in the fall.
A flip test shows your ability to flip a single while in it and then get back into the boat without assistance. A coach will supervise this test. If you are unable to complete getting back into the single, you will be required to wear a waist style life preserver. It looks like a fanny pack and can be worn while rowing.
