  • This program has limited spots available due to equipment limitations. Registration is limited to 20 participants.

Program Description

At BHRA we are committed to providing excellence at every level of instruction in the sport. Our Middle School curriculum provides young athletes with opportunities to develop their formative rowing skills and progress by focusing primarily on sculling.

This program is comprised of:

  • 8th graders from Bromfield,  R.J. Grey and  Harvard resident students attending a publicly funded charter, technical or vocational school.

Our goals are to:

  • provide middle schoolers with a level playing field to learn, excel, and try something new without having to compete against older rowers with far more experience;

  • offer developmentally-appropriate rowing in sculling boats, promoting wellness and longevity in the sport; and,

  • enable young athletes to gain a strong foundation and understanding of the work ethic, commitment and camaraderie that lies at the heart of rowing in preparation to become leaders on the competitive high school team, while still accommodating middle school schedules and interests.

Above all, we strive to help all of our rowers grow, develop and have fun with the sport of rowing, both on and off the water.

Program Prerequisites

  • 8th grade beginner with no rowing experience.

  • Practices are 3-days a week

  • Enrollment for this program is limited to 20 participants - 10 boys and 10 girls. The following rules apply:

    • Registration will be filled on a first come, first served basis with Bromfield students given first option if we exceed 20.

    • There is no “Try-Out” for R.J. Grey students who wish to join this program. If they decide to return for the high school novice program, they may need to “Try-Out” at that time.

    • All new athletes have until Friday, September 2 to register for the program. If you withdraw before September 2, you will receive a full refund. In the case of online payment, less the processing fee.

  • There are two regattas this fall. Participants should consider these dates when enrolling. We would like you to be available for both dates: New England Regionals on October 7 & 8 and MPSRA Championship October 28.

  • Develop in a team environment and participate in the Leaf Raking (fall) and Ergathon (spring) fundraisers.
